Specialist MicrophonesThere are a variety of microphones on the market which are a little different to the conventional instrument and vocal mics that we are all used to seeing . Amongst these are some of the microphones that I have included in this specalist section. Initially I am going to highlight some mic's and split them into the following groups: In the stereo group are multi-channel mic's including both stereo and quadraphonic along with the unique Nuemann KU100 binaural microphone. The boundary group includes the PZM which has been manufactured by a few different manufacturers under licence such is it's popularity. These are not microphones that you would use in conventional recordings, but having these options gives you more solutions for solving audio recording problems.
Having knowledge of specialist microphones can help with unusual recording requiremnts or to add interesting elements to a more conventional recording. For example the PZM microphone with it's bright crisp pick-up is a good alternative way to record piano or percussion. |
